In the previous chapters of inbound marketing certification course we have gone through basics of SEO. Now we would be discussing about SEO keywords and keyword search. SEO keywords are the words and content in your web pages that make it possible for search engines to rank your website and show it to the person who is trying to find something. Search engines rank your website with the help of these keywords.

Google estimates the SEO keywords by trying to find the keyword density and content placed in meta, heading tags. You guys must be wondering what is all this? We will make it easier for you to understand. But make sure you have done basics of SEO correctly.

Finding the best SEO keyword

There are some definite Do Not’s for your keyword search when you begin

  • Doing the SEO keyword search only once in a lifetime for your page
  • Not expanding and updating the SEO keywords
  • Targeting keywords which are too competitive in the SEO keyword space
  • Keyword stuffing

SEO keyword research requires the person to the research thoroughly, find keywords that are relevant, have less competition and updating SEO keywords regularly. To make our inbound marketing strategy successful we need to make sure that our SEO keywords are chosen correctly.

For the first part, we need to make sure that keyword search has been done thoroughly. The keywords must be relevant to your topic ad we need to diversify our keywords.  The second part would be finding SEO keywords that are long tail. While you are starting out it is better to use long tail keywords instead of short tail keywords. Long tail keywords have less competition and are easier to rank for. Then we need to make sure the keywords we have chosen are updated regularly.

Where would you turn to while doing SEO keyword search? You can look at Google Keywords Planner to improve your search presence over the internet. We would be discussing it in detail in our later chapters as to how to go about it.

Getting better results for inbound marketing strategy

After you have found SEO keywords for your website it is time we figure out how to put it to use and make your inbound marketing strategy a success?

The first thing you need to make a note of is the keyword density of your article. My take on keyword density is to have it between 2 to 3% which is not to less neither to high. Keyword density is the number of times word is repeated divided by total number of words. Google uses it to understand the topic to which content is related.

The next step you will care for is keyword grouping. You would like to create similar content for a group of keywords and include them.

Then to make your inbound marketing strategy more effective you would like to make sure that keywords are used in right places. The SEO keyword should be placed in title, URL, beginning and ending paragraph, one in the middle paragraphs , meta tags, image and anchor tags. These are sufficient for your SEO keyword to reach to a density of 2-3%. Meta tags, title and anchor are the most effective among these as they let Google know about the topic for the content

More emphasis should be on relevance of keywords than keyword density. If these steps are taken care of your inbound marketing strategy would become more effective.
